Art in the Redwoods is holding to tradition with a wide range of art categories – everything from acrylics to weaving – and adding a new one, video clips. Artists may enter up to five pieces, and include multiple views of each piece, all from the convenience of a computer or mobile device.

Online Gallery viewers will be able to purchase art online and have it shipped directly from the artist.

And online gallery viewers can comment on any or all of the art. Those comments will help determine the Art in the Redwoods-Online! “Most Popular” award. Comments will be accepted through September 27, 2020.

Art awards will total more than $5,000 this year, all provided by local sponsors. Award-winning artwork will be selected by the Fine Art Exhibit judges.

On Thursday, August 13, our Hats Off dinner was transformed into a Boxed Hat Dinner to go. The four course dinner was enjoyed in the safety & comfort of our guests homes. Boxed Hat dinner featured fine food created by St. Orres under the guidance of Executive Chef Rosemary Campiformio. Boxed dinners were $150 (included a $100 donation letter).

Art in the Redwoods-Online! Exhibit • August 14-September 30

Fine Art Exhibit

The heart of Art in the Redwoods is the Exhibit of Fine Art, including art works in 16 different categories including oil paintings, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, photographs, sculpture, woodworking, stained and fused glass, jewelry and fiber arts – most of them for sale. Award-winning artwork is selected by the Fine Art Exhibit judges and over $5,000 in prize monies sponsored by local business’ will be awarded.

Judging the awards will be Lauren Baines, Deric Torres and Christine Koppes
.

Lauren Baines holds over ten years experience in the arts non-profit sector working with museums, art centers, artist residencies, and performing arts companies. Baines joined the de Saisset Museum at Santa Clara University in 2016 as Assistant Director and currently serves as Interim Director. She is responsible for curating the museum’s exhibitions as well as planning related interpretation, integrated education opportunities, and public programs. Baines holds a M.F.A. from Mills College in Choreography/Dance and B.A. and B.S. degrees from Santa Clara University, where she triple majored in Art History, Theatre Arts (Dance Emphasis), and Psychology

Deric Torres has a very strong, decades long background in American Furniture and Decorative Arts circa 1870-1950, with an emphasis on California.  His education and mentorship have focused on California related Furniture, Decorative, and Fine Art including Early California from 1870 through the Bay Area Figurative movement, and contemporary California art. With nearly twenty five years in the field both as a collector and representing high level private collectors and institutions, Torres has a keen sense of market trends and current market values. He is Senior Vice President and partner at Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland.  In addition to being the Director of the very strong Furniture and Decorative Art department, Deric is also an auctioneer at the gallery. Deric is an Accredited Member of ISA, and his work is truly his love and his passion.

Christine Koppes is the Curator and Director of Public Programs at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). Koppes is dedicated to curating exhibitions that promote awareness and appreciation of contemporary art and culture with an emphasis on emerging and mid-career artists. Koppes has lived and worked in the Bay Area for more than ten years. From 2013 to 2018 she was Assistant Curator of Exhibition and Programs at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, CA. She received her BA in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley.

The exhibit will be available to view and to make purchases online from Friday, August 14 through September 30.

We hope to hang physical art in the arts center and issue limited access to public viewings with safe distances but time will tell with county and state regulations and guidelines.

Boxed Hat Dinner

Top Hat Dinner

This special fundraiser evening of fine food, wine and art was originally held on Friday night for many years but since 2007 it moved to Thursday and has become the opening fundraiser event of the annual Festival.   In 2020, the “Top Hat Dinner” or more recently titled “Hats Off Dinner” has been renamed and re-imagined to the “Boxed Hat Dinner”: to go and available for drive by pick up.

You will be able to order (and prepay) for the 4-course bountiful gourmet meal celebrating the cuisine of Mendonoma & Sonoma Coasts, lovingly prepared by Rosemary Campiformio of St. Orres. It’s a meal that you can enjoy in the safety of your own home, including wine (or non-alcohol drink) and dessert. Pickups will be scheduled for Thursday, August 13.

To-go Box Hat Dinners were assigned a time to pick up at St. Orres as a drive-through.

4 entrée choices were:

• Salmon

• Rack of Lamb

• Duck

• Eggplant

• Woodenhead wine choices of Red or White;

• Russian River Valley Pinot Noir or

• Piper Ranch Chardonnay

An optional Zoom party happened with:

  • private breakout “tables”
  • tour of art exhibit
  • first opportunity to purchase art
  • entertainment & more!

In this year of changes, COVID-19 is inviting us to transform and re-imagine Art in the Redwoods, our annual member’s exhibit. Along with a new online registration and artwork submission process, we are introducing online gallery displays, electronic people’s choice voting, streaming awards announcements, and a Hatbox full of other changes.
