Offered through the fundraising efforts of the Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild (PPQG) through their annual Art in the Redwoods Quilt Raffle, the Young Artist Scholarship program is open to graduating seniors who reside in Gualala Arts’ region, from Fort Ross to Elk, and intend to pursue a career in some field of art. Individual scholarships have ranged from $500 to $3,000. Qualifications include strong interest, activity and accomplishments in some field of the arts or design and plans to enroll in program of art and or design studies at a college or university.

Scholarship winners have gone on to develop their talents at a wide variety of specialized institutions, community colleges, colleges and universities in fields as various as painting, drawing, sculpture, music, ceramics, jewelry, theater, dance, writing, film, photography, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, fashion design, and other related fields.

Information on how and where to apply may be obtained from scholarship counselors at Point Arena High School, Pacific Community Charter High School and South Coast Community High School.

Local residents attending Mendocino High School and home schooled graduates may pick up application information at Gualala Arts Center or download the 2026 Scholarship application instructions. Deadline for completed applications is Friday, April 24, 2026.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution toward the support of young artists or wishing further information on the program should contact David “Sus” Susalla, Executive Director, Gualala Arts. Gualala Arts Awards Committee thanks the Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild (PPQG) for its longtime and ongoing support of the Young Artists Scholarship fund through its annual donation of the proceeds from the Art in the Redwoods Quilt Raffle.
