The Dolphin Gallery is pleased to present Biophilia, a new exhibition of 35mm abstract photography by local artist Joshua Goldsmith, opening Saturday, July 4, with a public reception from 1 to 3 pm. The exhibit remains on view through July 26.
In Biophilia, Goldsmith turns his lens toward the dissolving boundary between human and nature. Shot on 35mm film and featuring friends in familiar local geography, these abstract images explore how the modern technological world often separates us from what is inherently whole. Textures—rock, water, sun, sand, skin—merge and echo one another, suggesting that the elements we treat as separate are, in truth, deeply interconnected.
This body of work is a fully enclosed creative project from start to finish. Goldsmith rolls his own film cassettes, shoots locally, home‑processes each roll, and prints and frames every piece by hand. The frames themselves are crafted from locally sourced secondhand wood, reinforcing the exhibition’s commitment to place, material, and mindful making.
Biophilia invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and consider the quiet ways in which the natural world and the human body reflect one another.
