Entomologist and Sea Ranch naturalist Larry French, joined by colleagues from the University of California, will present A Magical Night of Moths: Local Lepidoptera on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gualala Arts Center, followed by a nighttime field session at Mill Bend. The free program will feature striking images, specimens, and insights into the remarkable moth species that play a vital role in the coastal ecosystem.

Following the indoor presentation, attendees will head into Mill Bend Meadow for a guided after‑dark experience, observing and identifying live moths as they emerge. The event blends science, art, and hands‑on discovery while contributing to local citizen‑science efforts.

Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight, a camera or smartphone, and to wear dark clothing. The talk begins at 7:30 p.m., with peak moth activity expected between 9:00 and 11:00 p.m.

All ages and experience levels are welcome.
