A Dolphin Gallery Exhibit

The Dolphin Gallery will present Nana’s Tropicals, a vibrant display of handmade quilts by local artist Laura Leigh. The exhibit opens Saturday, July 5, from 1-3 p.m. and will remain on view through July 27.

Inspired by decades of travel to Hawaii, Leigh has amassed an extensive collection of tropical fabrics, including vintage muumuus, Hawaiian shirts, dresses, and skirts. These textile treasures have been transformed into baby quilts, each featuring 16 squares embroidered at the center and bordered with additional island-inspired fabrics.

“With each quilt, I weave together a story of the Hawaiian islands, their rich colors, and their warmth,” Leigh said. “I take great pride in this work and have sewn over 70 quilts to date. This latest collection includes forty quilts, all crafted from 100% cotton, making them both washable and timeless keepsakes.”

While designed for newborns, these quilts double as striking wall art, offering a distinctive touch to any space. Leigh’s handcrafted pieces stand as one-of-a-kind gifts for families, celebrating tradition, artistry, and personal craftsmanship.
