The Dolphin Gallery in the Seacliff Center in downtown Gualala is thrilled to present “The Human Tree,” a special showing by the talented Sonoma County artist Ruy Carpenter. This exhibit promises to be a profound exploration of the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, capturing the essence of our shared existence through stunning visual art.

Ruy Carpenter’s work delves into the intricate relationships between people and the natural world, using a variety of mediums to express the beauty and complexity of these connections. “The Human Tree” invites viewers to reflect on their place within the larger tapestry of life, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the environment and our role within it.

In Ruy’s own words:

Art has always been a challenge to look at things differently, to feel beyond my own experience, and see the world around me through fresh eyes. I fell in love with multiple exposure photography for precisely this reason. The physical act of doing it challenges me to go beyond my own formulas, to transcend the limiting frame of the camera and really participate in my photographic subject, such that the result becomes more than the sum of its layered parts. But it also challenges me to see creatively and discover the essence of what I’m photographing under the surface. This kind of depth-participation often feels like something unwarranted given the state of the world around us, but it also feels so necessary in the midst.

It’s become a kind of meditation and healing practice. In this sense, I photograph to restore the beauty in my life. Like a tree unfurls its leaves in the sunlight, how does it feel when our senses are opened, unarmored, awake, participating in our surroundings not only conceptually, but perceptually? This is what I hope to explore artistically with this project, and really with all my art.” ~ Ruy
