
Artist Richard Weiss will unveil his latest exhibit, Playing with Perception, at the Gualala Arts Center’s Coleman Hall, with an opening reception on Friday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibit runs through Oct. 5.
Weiss, a French-born California painter, is known for his mesmerizing 3D optical illusion works. His Pop Art-inspired pieces blend vibrant hues with intricate designs, offering a playful yet thought-provoking take on popular culture and societal themes.
Weiss’s will feature his new film, The Book: They Came From Inner Space, which will be screened on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. The fantasy thriller, described as visually radical, has earned six nominations and 13 awards, including top honors at the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival and the Los Angeles Movie Awards. Weiss, the director of the film, will be present at the screening and there will be a Q&A after the film.
Set in the year 2284, The Book follows bestselling author Alexis, who is confronted by doppelgänger aliens attempting to take over his identity to publish their own transformative book. This book is designed to neutralize negative emotions, eliminating greed, anger, and fear—a vision of planetary harmony. However, a secret faction of dissidents choose to remain unchanged.
Tickets for the movie screening will be $10 in advance, +$5 day of, available at the Dolphin Gallery, Gualala Arts and online at GualalaArts.org.
