Exhibit Statement
The Gualala Salon & Salon des Refusés is our local premier juried art show of the year. Hosted by the North Coast Artists Guild, this show features some of the best work of both local and regional artists. First Place award is $1,250, Second Place is $1,000, and Third Place is $750. Don’t agree with the judges? You aren’t alone! The famous Salon des Refusés in Paris in 1863 was a reaction to the hundreds of master works that did not make it into the formal Salon. All works will be displayed, and those not chosen for the Salon (in the Burnett Gallery) will be placed in the Elaine Jacob Foyer of the Gualala Arts Center, and are eligible for People’s Choice Awards ($125 for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place.) Other $100 awards this year will be an Emerging Artist Award for best work by an artist under age 18; Collage Group Award for best collage; a Humor Award for best humorous content; and the Founders Award by our esteemed founders of the show: Doric Jemison-Ball, Bruce Jones, and Sharon Nickodem.
Opening reception will be from 4-6 pm on April 11 and will be catered by the fabulous Black Oak Catering. Dust off your fancy clothes (if you still have them) for this premier event!
Call to Artists
ENTRY Instructions: $20 per entry ($25 for Not For Sale pieces). Up to two entries allowed per artist. Registration fee waived for artists under 18. Contact Kendra at kendraGualalaArts@gmail.com.
For this exhibit, artists are encouraged to use any media.
• The work submitted must be original to the artist, should be no more than two years old, and cannot have been previously exhibited at Gualala Arts.
• Gualala Arts will retain 30% commission on all sales of entries (and multiples) made during the course of the exhibit. It is Gualala Arts policy to request the artist to submit to Gualala Arts 10% of any future sales generated as a result of the Gualala Salon & Salon des Refusés.
• Please ensure all artwork is professionally prepared for hanging or display (no clip frames, etc.) and can be displayed with minimum of effort. NO screws or anchor bolts will be used for hanging; if needed, modify your art to be hung by wire picture hanger.
• Gualala Arts is not liable for loss of, or damage to, any artwork or installation, at any point in the process.
• Gualala Arts does not insure artwork. Exhibitors should insure their artwork if they deem it necessary.
• Entered artwork must be delivered to Gualala Arts Center 46501 Old State Highway, Gualala, on either Tues, April 8 OR Weds Feb. 7 ,from noon-3pm from noon-3pm
• When delivering art, include a label with your name and the title of the entry securely attached to each piece.
• Artist must agree to have their art used for show publicity.
• Regarding large pieces: total width of wall art is limited to 8′ per artist (the total width of both pieces).
• If not using the online registration, make checks payable to Gualala Arts and send to
Gualala Arts Center, C/O Gualala Salon, PO Box 244, Gualala, CA, 95445.
• An “Artist Statement” and photograph is optional for each artist. Please submit bring with art upon delivery. The curator will provide a binder to display with exhibit.
