Gualala Arts is excited to showcase “Works in Wood and Beyond,” a unique exhibition by James Docker, opening February 14th from 4-6 pm alongside “Side by Side” by Linda and Wilbur Wong in  the Burnett Gallery. This free exhibit, which runs through March 9th, features an array of wood sculptures and metal fabrications that reflect Docker’s extensive career and artistic journey. Educated at Pepperdine and San Francisco State University, Docker’s work is deeply influenced by his time in Kyoto, Japan, and his 50-year tenure as a General Contractor. His transition from building homes to creating intricate knife blocks and serving boards marks a new chapter in his creative expression. Docker’s designs, often likened to ‘quilting in wood,’ are a testament to his belief in the fusion of visual beauty and practicality. The exhibition promises to be a celebration of craftsmanship and the enduring impact of art in everyday life.
