Gualala Arts is excited to announce the opening of “FROZEN MOMENTS,” an oil painting exhibit by Steven Steinberg. The exhibit, which chronicles poignant moments in time through Steinberg’s unique Grisaille technique, will be on display in the Jacob Foyer at Gualala Arts from February 14th to March 9th. Admission is free.

Steinberg’s Grisaille method, a monochromatic style traditionally executed in shades of grey, serves as an underpainting to add depth to his colorful oil paintings. His work is inspired by his travels across the United States, capturing the essence of various regions through a series of figurative, abstract, landscape, western, and dancer themes. Rather than striving for photo-realism, Steinberg aims to evoke the emotions stirred by his photographic references, allowing viewers to connect with the artwork on a personal level.

The “FROZEN MOMENTS” collection features intimate snapshots of life, from private exchanges between friends to the dynamic movements of dancers. Steinberg’s abstract pieces distill complex images into minimalist forms, while his landscapes pay homage to the Californian vistas he has encountered. His western series reflects the storied past of the Southwest, a region where he spent 14 years immersing himself in its rich history. This exhibit promises to be a captivating journey through the diverse experiences and artistic explorations of Steven Steinberg.
