Singer-songwriter Alice DiMicele brings nearly four decades of music-making to Gualala Arts on Sunday, February 7 at 4 p.m., joined by virtuoso guitarist Andy Casad for an afternoon of American folk, Americana, soul and groove.

Since releasing her debut album, Make A Change, in 1988, DiMicele has built a devoted following through 18 albums and years of touring. Her songs blend the deeply personal with a broader awareness of the world, exploring love, loss, resilience, social justice, environmental consciousness and the beauty of being alive.

At the center of DiMicele’s music is her remarkable five-octave voice, capable of moving from deep, earthy lows to soaring highs and quiet, intimate passages. Her performances combine tenderness and vulnerability with power, grit and conviction.

“Alice’s music has that great combination of earthiness & groove that keeps it funky from the inside out. She’s for real,” says Bonnie Raitt.

Throughout her career, DiMicele has shared the stage with an impressive roster of artists, including Raitt, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples, Melissa Etheridge, David Grisman, Janis Ian, Holly Near, Rising Appalachia, J.J. Cale and Steve Winwood. Yet her own musical path has remained distinctly independent, allowing her songwriting and sound to evolve while retaining the honesty at the heart of her work.

Her newest album, Reverse the Flow, continues that journey. Nearly four decades after Make A Change, DiMicele remains focused on songs that question where we are headed, celebrate what matters and encourage listeners to imagine another way forward.

For her Gualala Arts appearance, DiMicele will be joined by guitarist Andy Casad, bringing an expanded dimension to songs that can be intimate one moment and powerful and rhythmic the next.

After 18 albums and nearly 40 years of performing, DiMicele continues to make music with purpose, heart and an unmistakable voice.
