Artist Ileana Soto will present an artist talk on January 3 at 2 p.m. at Gualala Arts marking the final day of her exhibit, Textile Art as Activism.
During the talk, Soto will explore her creative process and how she moves from an idea, emotion or concept to the abstract imagery she uses to communicate with viewers. Just as importantly, she is interested in discovering what viewers themselves see and experience when encountering her work.
The program will include a group discussion of two pieces from the exhibit, inviting participants to consider questions such as: What do you see? How does the work affect you? What ideas or emotions does it bring forward?
Through conversation and shared observations, Soto hopes participants will learn from one another and expand their perceptions of art and the many ways an artwork can communicate.
The artist talk offers a final opportunity to experience Textile Art as Activism while gaining insight into both Soto’s creative process and the individual interpretations her work inspires.
