Gualala Arts is proud to present Mountain Mist, a vibrant quilt exhibition curated by Jeri Kennedy, opening with a reception on Friday, October 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Coleman Hall. The exhibit will remain on display through November 15.
This stunning collection features 20 to 30 meticulously crafted quilts, many of which are award-winning and have been featured in national quilting publications. Each piece is a faithful reproduction of historic appliqué patterns originally distributed by the Stearns & Foster Company in 1929 as part of a groundbreaking marketing campaign. These patterns, offered free with the purchase of batting, became iconic and are now considered part of the American quiltmaking lexicon.
In 2011, a dedicated group of quilters came together to bring these timeless designs back to life. Each quilt in the exhibit is accompanied by a copy of the original pattern and a brief written history of its designer, offering visitors a rich blend of artistry and storytelling.
Jeri Kennedy has presented this exhibit and its accompanying lecture at venues across the country, including the International Quilt Study Group at the University of Nebraska, where it received enthusiastic acclaim. Mountain Mist is a feast for the eyes and a celebration of American craft history—an experience that is as educational as it is beautiful.
This family-friendly exhibition invites visitors of all ages to explore the legacy, creativity, and enduring charm of traditional quilting.
