Sushi enthusiasts, rejoice! The ever-popular Poki and Nigiri Sushi and Lunch workshop is back at the Gualala Arts Center on Saturday, September 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., led once again by seasoned Mendocino Coast chef Laura Leigh. No need to roll up your sleeves—this is a demonstration and lunch only! Students will watch, learn, and enjoy the meal, with no hands-on participation.
Known for her decades of sushi-making expertise and engaging teaching style, Leigh will guide participants through the art of crafting both poki and nigiri. The workshop includes live demonstrations of three flavorful poke varieties—octopus, ahi, and yellowfin tuna—as well as three types of nigiri: tuna, crab cup, and tobiko.
Whether you’re new to sushi or looking to refine your technique, this hands-on experience offers a delicious dive into Japanese culinary traditions with a local twist.
The workshop fee is $60 for Gualala Arts members and $90 for non-members. A $10 materials fee is payable directly to the instructor. Advance registration is required by visiting GualalaArts.org or signing up at the Gualala Arts front desk by September 3.
Spaces are limited, and with Leigh’s workshops known to fill quickly, early sign-up is encouraged. Come hungry to learn—and to taste!
Register by September 3 to secure your spot. Please note: cancellations are subject to a $35 fee, and no refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.
