Founded in 1968, Vox Aurea—Latin for “Golden Voice”—has earned global acclaim for its exceptional musicality and adventurous programming. The choir’s distinctive repertoire blends traditional Finnish folk traditions with sophisticated contemporary choral works, creating a sound that is both culturally rooted and artistically innovative.

The ensemble is composed of 50 to 60 auditioned singers, ages 11 to 18, many of whom study in Jyväskylä’s specialized music‑focused school programs. Since 2009, Vox Aurea has been led by conductor Sanna Salminen, continuing a distinguished artistic lineage that includes former Tapiola Choir director Kari Ala-Pöllänen and renowned composer Pekka Kostiainen.

Vox Aurea has toured extensively across Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia, earning top honors in major international competitions, including the European Broadcasting Union’s prestigious Let The People Sing. The choir is also known for commissioning new works and fostering multicultural collaborations. Most recently, in June 2025, they premiered the miniature opera Echoes of Eureka in partnership with the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir.

This rare West Coast appearance offers audiences an opportunity to experience one of the world’s most respected youth choirs in an intimate and acoustically rich setting.
