Step into the sun, experiment with light, and watch your ideas bloom into vivid blue artwork. (If the weather doesn’t cooperate, don’t worry—an equally hands‑on alternate activity will be offered.)
Connect the Dots Art Studio brings their inquiry‑driven, highly engaging cyanotype workshop to Gualala Arts, inviting participants to create with sunlight itself. Known for making art experiences accessible, playful, and unforgettable, their teaching artists guide participants through this early photographic process that feels a little like science and a lot like magic.
Cyanotypes— are an early photographic process that feels like magic. Students will use paper that has been applied with a light-sensitive solution, design with stencils or natural materials, and watch as the sun transforms their ideas into bold, electric-blue prints. It’s safe, tactile, experimental—and seriously cool.
This workshop draws inspiration from Meadow as Muse, an exhibition by Karen Wilkinson on view at Gualala Arts from May 7–June 8, 2026. Together, we’ll explore questions such as:
- What defines a meadow
- What you notice when you slow down and look closely
- Which shapes, plants, and textures make a meadow feel alive
- How meadows support our coastline and ecosystem
Students won’t just make art—they’ll observe, question, experiment, and connect creativity with environmental awareness. Expect curiosity, collaboration, and plenty of “whoa, that worked!” moments. Space and materials are limited, RSVP at GualalaArts.org by May 9 to attend.
Everyone will leave with their own sun‑print masterpiece, and participants are invited to share their creations online using #GAS and #MeadowAsMuse.
