Sacred and Profane Chamber Chorus will bring a program of evocative choral works celebrating the natural world to the Gualala Arts Center on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 5 p.m.
The Berkeley-based chamber choir, under the direction of Sea Ranch resident Rebecca Seeman, will present a selection of works inspired by the elements of earth and air. Featured compositions include Shawn Crouch’s Marshland Elegy, Eoin Conway’s arrangement of the Irish folk tune Wild Mountain Thyme, and Frank Ticheli’s Earth Song. The program also includes a Saami joik by Swedish composer Jan Sandström and a performance of Songs from the North by Swedish composer Karin Rehnqvist, which sets poetry from indigenous Arctic writers. Audience members will be invited to sing along in Shawn Kirchner’s Easy on the Earth.
Founded in Berkeley in 1977, Sacred and Profane is an advanced a cappella chorus performing music from the medieval period to the present, incorporating classical, folk, and contemporary traditions with a commitment to social justice themes. The ensemble consists of 24 to 32 singers from diverse backgrounds and regularly collaborates with instrumentalists, chamber orchestras, and other ensembles.
Tickets for the concert are $25 in advance and +$5 day of. They are available at Gualala Arts, the Dolphin Gallery, and online at GualalaArts.org.
