Sushi lovers and culinary adventurers are invited to sharpen their chopsticks for a hands-on sushi-making workshop led by longtime Mendonoma coast chef Laura Leigh. The class, titled Poki and Nigiri Sushi and Lunch, will take place on Saturday, January 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gualala Arts Center. No need to roll up your sleeves—this is a demonstration and lunch only, students will watch, learn, and enjoy the meal, with no hands-on participation.
With over two decades of sushi-making experience, Leigh returns to Gualala Arts to share her passion and expertise in crafting beautiful, flavorful sushi. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sushi preparation— a fun two hour demonstratation about assembling sushi and poki bowls.
The workshop includes demonstrations of three styles of poki: octopus, ahi, and yellowfin. Leigh will also showcase how to prepare nigiri with tuna, crab cup, and tobiko, offering a delicious dive into the diversity of this Hawaiian-Japanese fusion dish.
The fee for the workshop is $60 for Gualala Arts members and $90 for non-members. A $10 materials fee is payable directly to the instructor. Registration is open through December 29 at GualalaArts.org or in person at the Gualala Arts front desk.
Whether you’re a seasoned sushi enthusiast or a curious beginner, this flavorful experience promises to be both educational and delicious.
Register by December 29 to secure your spot. Please note: cancellations are subject to a $35 fee, and no refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.
