
Gualala Arts is proud to present a Whale & Jazz Series concert created by Fred Adler featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Mads Tolling & Friends. The performance will take place on Saturday, December 6 at 4 pm at the Gualala Arts Center. Mads will be accompanied Adam Klipple; piano, Gary Brown; bass, Eric Garland; drums
This concert will feature a recreation of Cristo Redentor and the song by Duke Pearson and Donald Byrd. The concert will also include the beloved tune “Three Little Words” by Harry Ruby and Bert Kalma.
We’re also hoping Mads will share “Coastal Explorations,” the beautiful song he wrote especially for Gualala.
Tickets are $25 in advance for general admission, with a $5 increase on the day of the event. A limited number of $100 Sponsor Tickets, which include select seating, are available exclusively online.
About Mads Tolling
Originally from Copenhagen and now based in San Francisco, Mads Tolling is a Grammy Award-winning violinist and composer celebrated for his dynamic performances and genre-defying style. A former member of Stanley Clarke’s band and the Turtle Island Quartet, Tolling has earned two Grammy Awards and a nomination for a third. He was named Rising Star Violinist by DownBeat Critics Poll in 2016.
Tolling has performed with jazz legends including Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Barron, Paquito D’Rivera, and Leo Kottke, and currently tours with Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros & Wolf Pack Band. His arrangements of Grateful Dead classics have become staples of his repertoire.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Tolling has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition and praised in the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Strings Magazine, and DownBeat. He has performed for Danish royalty and at iconic venues such as Red Rocks, The Greek Theatre, and Radio City Music Hall.
Tolling leads two ensembles—Mads Tolling Quartet and Mads Tolling & The Mads Men. His album Playing the 60s reimagines hits from 1960s film, TV, and radio, and spent two months on the US jazz radio top 30. He has also composed violin concertos for the Oakland Symphony and Pacific Chamber Orchestra and continues to perform globally as a Yamaha Artist and educator.
