The Redwood Coast Land Conservancy (RCLC) invites the public to a free community event on Saturday, October 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Gualala Arts Center, spotlighting ongoing efforts to protect and restore the Gualala River.

Titled Restoring the River, the afternoon gathering will feature a 2 p.m. panel discussion with representatives from RCLC, scientists from Prunuske Chatham, Inc., and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Panelists will unveil early design concepts aimed at improving fish habitat in the Gualala River estuary, part of a collaborative initiative supported by the state’s Fisheries Restoration Grant Program. A Q&A session will follow, offering attendees a chance to engage directly with the experts.

Beyond the panel, guests can explore educational booths hosted by local and state environmental partners, view historic and contemporary photographs of the river, and celebrate the winners of the Gualala River Community Photo Contest. Light refreshments will be served, and community members will have the opportunity to connect with those working to safeguard this vital watershed.

The event underscores the importance of community involvement in environmental stewardship and offers a platform for learning, dialogue, and appreciation of the natural beauty and ecological significance of the Gualala River.
