CoastSing, under the direction of Sue Bohlin, will present a special Mother’s Day Tea and Concert on Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at the Gualala Arts Center. Tickets are $15 in advance, with a $5 increase on the day of the event, and are available at the Dolphin Gallery, Gualala Arts, and online at GualalaArts.org.
Sue Bohlin described that concert: “Beginning metaphorically in the East, with Like a Stream by Romanian-born György Ligeti, we’ll end in the West at the Pacific Ocean, singing Good Vibrations, with Bobby Roses as guest soloist. In between, there will be a good dose of water songs (Moon River, Rie Chinito), travelling songs (Caravan, Route 66) and tributes to the Divine (Laudate Dominum, Across the Universe). Come for the food, stay for the music, treat your Mom, Grandmom, Daughter, and don’t forget Sons & Dads!”
About Director Sue Bohlin
Sue Bohlin, along with her husband Bob Geary, was entered into the United States Congressional Record in 2023 by newly elected Mayor of Oakland, Barbara Lee, for her “exemplary service in the field of choral music.” The musical couple has also received “Founders” awards from the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir after four decades of leading the group to international recognition. Maestro Geary is also the 2023 recipient of two prestigious awards from Chorus America.
A published composer and sought after director and accompanist, Bohlin recently decided to quit her Bay Area music gigs, choosing instead to work with the talented musicians here, as well as enjoying the scenic beauty on the coast. In addition to managing and directing CoastSing, Sue teaches singing and music literacy in the Pt. Arena School District, plays piano for Shepherd by the Sea church, and coaches singers and instrumentalists. She was recently co-music director of the successful run of Fiddler on the Roof at Gualala Arts.
