Gualala Arts is delighted to announce an exciting new quilt workshop, “Polychrome: Improv Mosaic,” led by instructor Lorraine Woodruff-Long. The workshop, organized by the Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild, will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 14 and 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gualala Arts Center’s Coleman Hall.
Workshop fees are $120 for GA Members and $150 for non-members. Participants can sign up at GualalaArts.org or the Gualala Arts Front Desk by May 9.
During the workshop, students will delve into the concept of building a mosaic quilt using improvised log cabin blocks at ratios of 1:2:3. They will have the opportunity to create an Improv Mosaic 20″x20″ or 24″x24″ pillow or wall hanging using blocks of 2″, 4″, and 6″. The skills acquired will enable participants to construct larger throw or bed quilts.
“This process is fantastic for using scraps, even the smallest pieces,” said Woodruff-Long. “Participants will learn how to quickly create numerous small log cabin blocks via ‘scrappy chain piecing’ and use these to form unique medium and large blocks.”
