A retrospective exhibit featuring the artistic talents of well-known Coast residents, CC Case and Harald Eric Nordvold, will open at the Dolphin Gallery in the Seacliff Center on Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit will run through June 1.

The husband-and-wife team brings together their unique artistic visions in this exhibit. Case describes her approach to painting as “eclectic abstractions and impressionistic interpretations of land and sea and the feelings they evoke, in oil, acrylic and watercolor.”

Nordvold, of Viking Pottery and widely known as Eric to his friends and admirers, will display a selection of his pottery creations. Over the years, he has crafted numerous pieces that he is now excited to share with the public.

“In the beginning, I thought of myself as ‘self-taught.’ Now I believe there is no such thing,” Nordvold said. “We learn from everyone around us and everything we experience – books, travel, the ever-changing natural world around us. When I started making pottery in 1970, there was no YouTube to look up information and very few pottery instruction books. Also, no bottled glazes or clay that fit my needs at the supply outlets. I needed to figure it all out myself.”

Nordvold added, “I was lucky that I lived in the Bay Area, where many good functional potters worked. I marveled at the work they produced and challenged myself to not copy the work but absorb the nuances of the pottery, then attempt to make my work individual and pleasing to me. A quote I have loved is ‘The longer you live in one’s shadow, the longer it takes to cast your own.’ My work is fired in a gas kiln built and designed myself. The firings, glazes, and shapes are all very important to me as they are what make my work uniquely my own. It makes me happy when people tell me they enjoy using my pottery and it adds something to their surroundings.”

The Dolphin Gallery, a vibrant art space in the Seacliff Center, has hosted many prominent artists and continues to support the local arts community. This exhibit promises to be a celebration of creativity and craftsmanship, showcasing the expressive works of CC Case and Harald Eric Nordvold.

Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the artistry of this remarkable couple. The exhibit runs through June 1, offering ample time to enjoy and appreciate their exceptional talent.
