Bay Area jazz virtuosos Randy Vincent and Greg Hester will join forces for an intimate evening of piano-guitar duets at St. Orres’ on Friday, April 25 as a part of the Whale & Jazz Series. Greg Hester has played piano professionally since 1972, focusing on classic jazz, bebop, standards, and blues. He has performed at jazz festivals in Frankfurt, Healdsburg, San Jose, and Sonoma, as well as wineries across Sonoma and Napa counties.
Hester cites Kenny Barron, Bud Powell, Bill Evans, Tommy Flanagan, Wynton Kelly, and Oscar Peterson among his influences, bringing fresh perspectives to classic jazz traditions.
Randy Vincent, a distinguished jazz guitarist, began his career in Florida before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1980. Since then, he has become a significant figure in the jazz community, balancing a career of teaching and performing. Vincent has played alongside notable musicians such as Joe Henderson, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bobby Hutcherson and has appeared at prestigious festivals like the Monterey Jazz Festival and the San Francisco Jazz Festival.
In addition to his performance career, Vincent has contributed extensively to music education. He has taught jazz guitar at Sonoma State University since 1981 and served as an instructor at the California Jazz Conservatory and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His dedication to mentoring has helped shape the careers of upcoming jazz talents like Julian Lage.
