The Gualala Arts Chamber Music Series is proud to present an exceptional musical event featuring the distinguished violist Emad Zolfaghari accompanied by Allegra Chapman on piano.  Zolfaghari is winner of the prestigious Irving M. Klein International String Competition. This concert, scheduled for Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 4 pm, promises to be a showcase of virtuosity and passion. Emad Zolfaghari, a Canadian violist, has garnered international acclaim following his recent victories at the Primrose International Viola Competition and other notable contests. His remarkable journey began at the tender age of 16 when he was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music, studying under the tutelage of Hsin-Yun Huang.

Emad’s artistry has been displayed on stages worldwide, performing as a soloist with major symphony orchestras such as l’Orchestre Métropolitain, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. His talent has also led him to participate in esteemed festivals, including the Perlman Music Program and Music from Angel Fire. Currently, Emad plays on a 1700 Matteo Goffriller viola, courtesy of the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation, and wields a Sartory Copy bow provided by CANIMEX, inc.

Allegra Chapman acclaimed by the San Francisco Chronicle for her “fervid but impeccably controlled” performances, she is driven by her passion for connecting audiences with historically overlooked and living composers. With a wide-ranging repertoire of music from Bach to Ligeti, she maintains a busy concert schedule as soloist and chamber musician. Allegra is currently a member of Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and Chordless duo with soprano Sara LeMesh. Allegra is a graduate of the Bard Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School. She is on faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Pre-College division and makes her home in San Francisco with her husband, rescue dog, and nearly 1000 books.

For those eager to witness this musical phenomenon, tickets are priced at $40 in advance, with an additional $5 on the day of the performance. They can be purchased at Gualala Arts, the Dolphin Gallery, and online at GualalaArts.org.
