The Dolphin Gallery in the Seacliff Center is proud to present “Resurfacing,” a captivating retrospective of new and old works by the talented artist Tomi Kielley Matthews. This exhibit marks Tomi’s return to the art world after a long hiatus, capturing her journey from “emerging” to “submerging” and back again. Many artists can relate to this experience, and Tomi is excited to once again share her artwork with the world.
Tomi Kielley Matthews has been an artist all her life. A native of the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan area, she studied fine art at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. She quickly became an emerging artist in the D.C. art scene, with shows associated with the NEA and The Washington Women’s Art Center. After relocating to the East Bay, Tomi found representation through the Miller Brown Gallery in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. In the late 1980s, she withdrew from active participation in the art world to devote herself to her family, but she continued creating art privately.
In 2015, Tomi moved to Gualala full-time and built a studio, allowing her to “resurface” on the North Coast. Her work consists mainly of oil paintings and Prismacolor drawings, focusing on realism with surreal and photo-real influences. This exhibit offers a unique opportunity to witness the evolution of her artistic journey and the diverse range of her creations.
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, February 1, from 1-3 pm at The Dolphin Gallery in the Seacliff Center. Meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and be among the first to see this captivating retrospective. The exhibit will be on display through February 23.
