The Art in the Redwoods Exhibit is a premiere event that showcasing the talents of artists at Gualala Arts. This year, the exhibit opens on Thursday, August 15, with the much-anticipated Hat’s Off in the Gardens Dinner, and will be up until September 14. Artists aiming to participate should note the entry deadline on Monday, July 8, with a cap at the first 350 entries. This year’s judges will be Ann Savageau, a multifaceted artist known for her activism and educational contributions a professor from UC Davis Savageau received her A.B. in Anthropology from Stanford University and her MFA from Wayne State University, and Carol Shu, a professional revered in sustainable design and textiles, she has a BA and an MFA in Design from UC Davis and an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School. Her MFA thesis, Soulcraft Clothing: Linking Indian Handcrafts with Sustainable Design, explored the cultural significance of traditional textile crafts and the role of craftwork in advancing women’s economic and social well-being in India.
The exhibit kicks off with the Hats Off in the Garden Dinner and a Fine Art sneak preview on August 15 from 4 to 7 pm. The following day, artists and guests can enjoy a Champagne Preview from 4 to 7 pm, with champagne service and a preview of the Outdoor Artists Vendor Booths, culminating in the opening of the Fine Art Exhibit at 4:30 pm.
The event continues on Saturday, August 17, from 10 am to 4 pm, with the Fine Art Exhibition and Outdoor Artists Vendor Booths open for public enjoyment, accompanied by food, drink, live music, and family entertainment. The same schedule follows on Sunday, August 18, with the addition of a raffle drawing and the announcement of the Most Popular artwork at 3 pm. Admission is $10 in advance at the Dolphin or $20 at the gate.
As the exhibit wraps up, artists and buyers can pick up their artwork on September 15 and 16, from noon to 3 pm. This event not only celebrates the vibrant art community but also fosters a spirit of cultural appreciation and artistic collaboration. It’s an opportunity for artists to showcase their work, connect with peers, and receive recognition from distinguished judges and the public alike. Entertainment
The Mendocino Dance Project, is set to perform Thursday, August 15 at 6pm and Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 12:30 and 1:30 on the beautiful Gualala Arts grounds. Their astonishing aerial performance from the redwood trees is a popular favorite and not to be missed.
Original Ensemble new this year the Original Ensemble will be performing during the Champaigne Preview is poised to deliver a memorable performance in the JAMI Amphitheater on Friday August 16th at 4 pm.
Barbara Johannes will serenade visitors with her accordion in the Redwood Picnic Area on Saturday, August 17 at noon.
The Coastalettes will perform on Saturday & Sunday, August 17 & 18, 2024 at noon. They will bring their dynamic presence in the Jacob Foyer, promising to be a throwback delight for all ages.
Bryn & Blue Souls are set for Saturday August 17, 2024 from 2 – 4 pm. They are scheduled to take the Amphitheater stage for an afternoon playing your favorite blues, rock and pop cover songs and a few originals.
The Ernest Bloch Bell Ringers will stroll the grounds and fill the air with melodious bells on Saturday & Sunday, August 17 & 18, 2024 at 11:30 am.
The festival continues with Story Time with the Frog, a fun event for children and those young at heart where readers from the 4 Eyed frog will read selections from children’s books on Saturday & Sunday, August 17 & 18, 2024 at 11 am.
August 18, 2024 from 2-4 pm Highway 1 Revisited will close the festival. A Bob Dylan tribute band will offer a nostalgic journey of classic favorites.
Wind & Wires will present a blend of music that resonates with the festival’s rustic setting on Thursday, August 15 at 4-7 pm and Sunday August at 11:30 am.
Freddy’s Puppet Day Dreams will enchant with a puppetry display that is sure to spark wonder and joy on Saturday, August 17th at 12:30 pm.
Bards of a Feather, the musical duo of Sharon and Jim Lieberman, will perform at the Redwood Picnic Area on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. They play acoustic guitar, mandolin, tambourine, and fiddle, specializing in old blues tunes from the 1920s to folk tunes from the ’60s and ’70s. Their repertoire includes music they learned on the streets of Mexico in the 1970s, as well as works from French songwriters they admire.
