A new three hour Roll Your Own Sushi workshop with Laura Leigh is set for Saturday, June 1 from 11 am – 2 pm.  The class costs $45 for Gualala Arts Members, $75 for non members, sign up at Gualala Arts or online at GualalaArts.org, there is a $10 materials fee to be paid to the instructor.  So get out your apons and sign up for this fun cooking tutorial.  Instructions will include how to make rice, how to roll sushi and preparations for plates. The workshop includes an informational hour and then on to the kitchen.  Students should be ages 18 and over.

This class will show how easy it is to roll your own sushi rolls at home. It’s fun and easy to learn and wonderful to share with family. We will cover the full range of sushi preparation: from the cooking of the sushi rice through preparation and hands-on rolling of the maki (rolls) to the presentation of the plating with edible leaves and flowers. Laura Leigh brings everything needed to roll sushi maki: cooked rice and classic sushi fillings: fresh organic vegetables and smoked salmon and avocado, wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce, etc. There will be a brief talk with information on ingredients and where to buy them to create healthy and beautiful edible art.  Laura will do a demonstration and bring a plate of sushi. It is so fun to roll our own sushi and sit down to a delicious lunch together in the last hour of the workshop. An enjoyable class for couples or a groups of friends. Laura loves to teach this class!

About Instructor Laura Leigh

Laura Leigh has been on the Mendonoma coast making sushi for more than 20 years. She is back at Gualala Arts teaching the art of rolling sushi. She is excited to be teaching another group of people interested in learning the steps of making sushi, from making the perfect rice to the delicious ingredients that go inside each sushi roll.
