Join local poet and writer Susan Wolbarst and Gualala Arts for a special poetry event on Saturday, April 12, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event, called “Poetry  For Everyone”, will take place outdoors in the DePrima Terrace, the courtyard next to Gualala Arts Center, and everyone is welcome to bring a poem they love to share with others. The event is free of charge, and snacks will be provided along with a no host bar.

“Poetry For Everyone” is a relaxed and inclusive outdoor event (weather permitting) for people of all ages and backgrounds. “Don’t worry if you think poetry is not for you, or you don’t understand poetry, or you don’t like poetry. You might hear something that you enjoy, and that’s what I hope for,” Wolbarst said. “The poem you bring can be your own creation, or a poem by anyone from any time period. It should be about one page long. You can bring two if you want.”

National Poetry Month, which was started by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, is a time to celebrate poets and the vital role that poetry has played in our literature and culture. Whether you are one of the many millions of regular readers, students, teachers, librarians, booksellers, publishers, families, or—of course—poets, poetry still has an important place in our lives.
