Two special workshops/events, the Community Paintout, are scheduled for Tuesday, July 11, and Sunday, July 16, featuring the talents of Erin Lee Gafill and Tom Birmingham. The PaintOuts are also fundraisers for Gualala Arts.
Both of these plein air paintouts will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and those participating are encouraged to bring a lunch. The paintout will take place at Black Point Cove at The Sea Ranch. Registration for either is $20 advance (pre-registration) and $5 more day of (on-site registration). Those wishing to attend both the Tuesday and the Sunday Community Paintouts can purchase a special ticket for $35. Follow this Plein Air Paintouts link to pay now online.
At 10:00 a.m., Erin Lee Gafill will begin the session with a fifteen minute demonstration of her approach to plein air landscape painting. Through keen observation and response Gafill employs a vigorous approach that fills her picture plane with the composition and color story of her final painting. Participants are encouraged and inspired to approach their canvas boldly and lay down the bones of their painting before their “inner critic” knows they’ve started.
After the demo participants will spend the morning creating their own plein air studies in response to the unique environment and light of The Sea Ranch coast. The morning will finish with a brown bag picnic and show and tell of the days work.
