“Suzanne Dunn: New Paintings”

A new exhibit “Suzanne Dunn: New Paintings” is set to open at the Dolphin Gallery on Saturday, March 4, 2023. There will be a public reception from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. As Dunn describes her work, “My new series of paintings work with the idea of deconstructing landscape, reducing the natural world to geometric shapes and vivid color. I am most influenced by the idea of rural coastal architecture juxtaposed by graphic suns, moon shapes and high contrast compositions.”

For Suzanne Dunn, the Sonoma/Mendocino coast is a place of peace. “From this place l create abstract and expressive atmospheric landscape paintings & ceramics inspired by our North Pacific Coast and the surrounding landscape. I work primarily in glazed stoneware for my functional pottery; and acrylic, ink, pencil, and charcoal on canvas for my paintings. Nature has balance. Nature has imperfections. Nature has contrast and it’s in a constant state of renewal. This gives us hope for positive change and evolution. These ideas keep me seeking beauty in the world and making art because of it.”

Dunn has a BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute with further study in ceramics with Japanese Master Shiro Otani. She has also studied Art History at UCLA, and has worked as a curatorial assistant at SFAI and SFMOMA in San Francisco, and SMMOA in Santa Monica. Dunn was a member and elected Chair of San Francisco’s Artists’ Committee. She has shown work throughout California, and has curated shows in California and Hawaii. For several years she owned Seed Gallery, Hawaii. Currently Dunn shows and sells her work at Discovery Artists’ Collective in Gualala, CA.

The Dolphin Gallery is at 39140 Highway One, (Seacliff Center), Gualala. The exhibit continues through Sunday, April 2, 2023.
