Vince Guaraldi created a delightful and iconic musical backdrop to the animated characters from “Peanuts”, the world created by the imagination of Charles Schultz’. On Saturday, November 12 at 3:00 p.m., pianist Jim Martinez brings it all to life with a live concert performance which will include many of Guaraldi’s compositions. Joining Martinez will be drummer Tim Metz, and bassist Pierre Archain. The afternoon concert is set for Coleman Hall at Gualala Arts, and there’s no question that Martinez will allow everyone in the audience to sit back and embrace the music. Martinez’ musical career began at the age of four, and during the next 18 years of classical training and his subsequent professional performances, he amassed a list of musical accomplishments encompassing nearly all styles of music, including jazz. The world of performance and recording for Martinez has included marquee names in jazz and instrumental music: Lionel Hampton, Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, and Manhattan Transfer’s Cheryl Bentyne. His concert performances have taken him to audiences around the world. In addition, Martinez has been featured with numerous symphony orchestras, and he’s found time to record thirteen albums.
As enduring as Guaraldi’s music is, this concert will please music lovers of all ages. For the young and the young at heart, it may only take a moment to see and feel the smiles in the audience as Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, Pigpen, Woodstock, Marcie all appear in our mind’s eye.
