The Gualala Arts Chamber Music Series continues in October with a performance by cellist Evgeny Tonkha and guitarist Dimitri Illarionov. The performance is Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. in Coleman Hall at Gualala Arts. Tickets are $40 advance, $45 at the door (if available).
Dimitri Illarionov, one of the most important classical guitarists to emerge from Russia’s younger generation of musicians, can also boast of many international awards and prizes. He leads an active concert life playing solo recitals and appearing with chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras in Russia, Western Europe, the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Evgeny Tonkha was born in 1981, into a musical family and studied at the Gnessin Music School. In 1998, he entered the Russian Academy of Music, and after graduating was invited to post-graduate studies at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Since 2006, he has been collaborating with the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra.
The uncommon pairing of cello and guitar once again proves to be a happy one. The innate songfulness of the cello adapts nicely in partnership with the plucked precision of the guitar, and audiences marvel as the two instruments work together, creating a delightful musical experience. The program for this concert is scheduled to include the works of Isaac Albeniz, Antonio Vivaldi, Andrey Zelenskiy, Mikhail Glinka and Giovanni Sollima.
Season tickets for all six chamber concerts are also available. More information is at GualalaArts.org.
