North Coast Live

“This exhibit will feature oil paintings of the animals and scenery of the Mendonoma Coast and environs. The pieces celebrate the natural beauty of the North Coast and exemplify what is special about our “slice of heaven”.

North Coast Live is an art show about the birds and other animals of the Coast Redwoods and North Coast environments. In order to interpret the living world around me I devote much time to walking, hiking and photographing in these areas in and near my home in Cazadero.

From my reference material, I create a composition that sometimes features the animal I have observed, and sometimes more the environment in which I observed the animal.

I often apply a base coat of black gesso to my wood panels. I then sketch out the main elements using my oil paints. As the painting comes together, I work the elements into a cohesive story bringing together mood, atmosphere and scenery.”- Chris Grassano
