Class Description:

This class will explore methods of painting fabric for use in quilted wall hangings. The emphasis will be on creating pieces, using acrylic paint as the medium and various types of combs as the painting tools.

The morning session will be devoted to actual painting of fabric. The PM session will be devoted to techniques of sewing painted fabric and incorporating it into a small quilt. The instructor will provide pre-made pieces of painted fabric, since the pieces created in the AM session will not yet be dry.

Using their own fabrics,  students will create a small wall hanging.

About the instructor:

Barbara Dunsmoor is a retired high school English teacher. She has been quilting for 42 years and has been a member of PPQG for 14 years. Barbara has served as a past President, past Program Chair, Challenge Co-chair five times, and as past Outreach Chair.
“I began as a very traditional quilter, but since moving to Sea Ranch, have expanded my vision to concentrating on abstract fabric art. I have experimented with fabric painting, thread painting, and the use of nontraditional fabrics, such as burlap or cork. I credit this expansion of my creative vision on the examples and support I have gotten from the incredible women (primarily) who make up PPQG. I have had shows at the Dolphin Gallery as well as participating in a number of shows at GAC. My journey is not yet complete.  I know there are other areas to explore. That is what keeps my creative spirit alive and well.”
