Habitat Sketching Walks + Pre-Field Theme Class (25 min). Meet outdoors at GAC. Carpool to sketching site.

Capture live bird posture and form from moving subjects. Experience a personal connection with the spirit of nature in wild birds from focused attention drawing exercises. Results often reveal a surprising essence and vitality. Artwork can be framed or used as working studies for paintings, drawings or collages.

All skill levels welcome! Suitable for ages 9 through adult (kids under 18 should attend with an adult). Program culminates with Wild Wire Birds: Flying Sculpture, September 9–November 20 — an exhibition and installation at Gualala Arts Center of participant and instructor creations inspired by live wild bird studies.

About the Instructor

As a high-energy artist, Jonqui Albin is best known for her active flying wire bird sculptures, big, bold narrative paintings and powerful installation impressions. Her current education program, “Bird Arting”, is applying her life-long experience as an innovative artist, performer, and enthusiastic, motivational art teacher to the conservations of wild birds. Bird Arting forges new connections between human and avian participants. Via Los Angeles, Berkeley and San Francisco, Jonqui is now based in her Sonoma, California Studio.
