Of all the dictionary definitions of ‘home,’ our favorite is ‘the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered,’ or simply put ‘a home is where the heart is.’
But ‘home’ is a complex concept with many nuances – a house may not be a home, but home can be where you live, or where you came from, or where your family is. You can be at home; make yourself at home; or eat someone out of house and home. You can bring home the bacon; chickens come home to roost; and it is always a while until the cows come home. Nobody can be home; and there can be nothing to write home about or you can make everyone feel at home.
The Sea Ranch 50th Anniversary Committee is sponsoring the Celebration of Home exhibit as a celebration of the beautiful coastal home that we all share. The show is an open call to all artists on the Mendonoma Coast. We are looking for new art that focuses on ‘HOME’ and what it means to the artist.
The exhibit is expected to feature innovative new work, breakthroughs in concept and design, pieces that explore the complex concept of ‘HOME’ in any and all of its manifestations. Both 2-D and 3-D art is welcome. Up to two entries per artist will be accepted. The only limitations placed on the artist are that whatever work is submitted was produced within the last two years and has not been on display previously at Gualala Arts Center. All artist submissions will be included in the show.
New artists with new concepts are particularly invited to participate. The hope is that participants seize this opportunity to display their personal vision of ‘HOME’.
This show, curated by Ling-Yen Jones and Sandy Scott, opens in the Burnett Gallery and Elaine Jacob Foyer on Friday, May 1, 2015 and runs the entire month through Sunday, May 31, 2015. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
