What defines a “Small Work?” – just its size, that’s all. All works submitted must be less than 12 inches in height and width and depth, in other words, able to fit in a sphere with a one foot diameter. So all kinds of wall art and three dimensional art are fine.
History: Several years ago, the late Merilyn Lafferty thought a small works show might be fun for the art community as well as the many art buyers who don’t have any free wall space. She was right. We received over 100 pieces and they were creative, interesting, and could fit just fine in the gallery.
Then we tried it again in 2012 and received over 140 pieces. We placed them in groups in both the gallery and foyer and it was another interesting show – creativity was rife. Even the people who hung the show loved it as they developed intriguing groupings; and art lovers were encouraged to buy several and make their own perfect groups.
The show is open to every living artist in the universe, but the entry fee is lower (3 pieces for $20) for members of Gualala Arts. Non-members pay $35 to enter their 3 pieces, so why not join for $30 and get all the advantages of membership including a $15 lower entry fee?
Get your Small Works entry form and fee to Gualala Arts by January 23, 2015 and deliver the actual pieces between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on February 3, 2015. The show will be on display from February 6 to February 28.
