One night in Judea, a disabled shepherd boy-turned-beggar and his mother are visited by three strangers. They are the Three Kings, and they are on their way to Bethlehem to visit the Christ Child, who has just been born.

Amahl and the Night Visitors, a one-act opera, was created by Italian composer Gian Carlo Menotti with an English libretto. Originally commissioned by NBC, since 1951 the story has become a Christmas staple across many cultures, through many media. In fact it was likely the first opera specifically composed for television in America.

Live performances are scheduled at Gualala Arts for December 11, 12 and 13, 2020. Auditions are set for May 31. See separate listing for information on auditioning.

Laura Leigh will direct this production.
