Art Center Theater auditions for:
Steel Magnolias

Coleman Auditorium
Gualala Arts Center

Sunday, May 18, 1:00 p.m.
Monday, May 19, 3:00 p.m.

Calling all southern belles (or would-be southern belles): Dust off your best southern accent and come on down to the Gualala Arts Center to audition for Art Center Theater's summer production of Steel Magnolias Steel Magnolias.

There are roles available for five women ages 16 and up in this funny, poignant, and beautifully written play by Robert Harling.

From the sweet and somewhat spacey Annelle to the town curmudgeon Ouiser, the roles in this play are both challenging and interesting, and offer the opportunity for our talented local women to be part of a fabulous ensemble cast. The movie version featured Sally Fields, Shirley MacClaine, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts. In our production, the role of Shelby (played by Julia Roberts in the movie) has been pre-cast. Former Gualala resident Hannah Parsons will return from CSU Fullerton to play the part. All other roles are available.

Rehearsals start June 9. Most will take place from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some weekends and evenings. Performance dates are July 25-27 and August 1-3.

Director Kathye Hitt has perusal scripts available for review before the auditions. Give her a call at 884-3744 or email her at kathitt@yahoo.com to get a copy. Auditions are at the Gualala Arts Center auditorium on Sunday, May 18 starting at 1:00 p.m. and Monday, May 19 starting at 3:00 p.m. If you are unable to make these audition dates, Kathye will be happy to arrange a private reading for you.
