Arts Center Theater will present Steel Magnolias, written by Robert Harling and directed by Kathye Hitt on July 25-27, July 31 and August 1-3, 2008. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
This touching, funny, and uplifting play is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to get their hair done. The cast of characters ranges from the "prettiest girl in town" to the town's rich curmudgeon. Their interactions as they deal with life's highs and lows, and the enduring strength of their friendship in the face of adversity will keep the audience entertained and inspired.
The play was written in 1988 and went on to be made into a movie with a stellar cast including Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts, Olympia Dukakis, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, and Dolly Parton.
