2009 Art Off the Wall Gualala Arts is gearing up for the second Art Off the Wall party. This unique event was very successful last year raising funds for the Arts Center and providing a festive evening of great food plus the excitement of waiting for your number to be drawn so you could choose either your favorite piece of art or a donated fun experience (such as last year's favorite, a Mystery Dinner hosted by Gualala Arts).

Tickets for the Event

There are two levels of tickets for the event. $30 pays for the reception, including food and beverages. The $60 ticket includes the reception, plus a guarantee that you will leave with an item worth at least $75, that you will select when your name is drawn. For tickets on-line, go to Brown Paper Tickets, or call them at 800-838-3006. To purchase in person, visit the Gualala Arts Center or The Dolphin Gallery.

What's Happening this Year?

Beginning May 23 (the same date as the Art Center's Elevator Lift Off Party), all the art and non-art donations for this event will be on display in the Coleman Auditorium. Prospective Art Off the Wall guests will have a week to preview every item that can be selected during the actual fundraising event scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 29. So come by the Arts Center during the week and make out your "shopping list" ahead of time.

The reception will be hosted by Gualala Arts, including an oriental-inspired appetizer spread and an open wine, beer and soft drinks bar. The Culinary Guild is pulling out all the stops to make this year's food even more delicious than last year... which will be quite a challenge!

There will be selected items valued over $500 available in a Silent Auction setting. All guests may participate in the silent auction. To see the list of items in the auction, check out the Art Off the Wall Donations page.

The main event is the drawing, where ticket numbers are drawn one by one, and the winner gets to pick his / her favorite item "off the wall." This year, the first selection goes to Charlie Murphy and Kathleen Sandidge because their's was the last number drawn last year. The process continues until all the tickets numbers are drawn. The excitement (and competition) builds with the uncertainty about whether the pre-selected prize will still be available when the player's number is drawn. Of course, side deals can be made and everyone gains because each item is guaranteed to be worth more than the cost of the ticket. Once all the numbers have been drawn, the remaining items will be sold for half the valued price, which created quite a frenzy of buying last year!

The majority of choices are pieces of art including watercolors, oils, serigraphs, lithographs, wood blocks, sketches and wall hangings in various media. There are also a number of non-art items to choose from, including dinners and personalized hikes around our area. Check out the Art Off the Wall Donations page for more about the items available.

Gualala Arts: Fine Arts Fair

Fine Arts Fair
May 29 & 30

This same weekend Gualala Arts will host a Fine Arts Fair at the Gualala Arts Center May 29 & 30, Memorial Day weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Fine Arts Fair grew out of the very popular Summer Saturday Art Festivals and based on numerous requests from patrons and artists alike, it was decided to transform the SSAF into a multi-day event. Artist spaces will be tastefully scattered along the periphery of the 15,000 sq. ft. Gualala Arts Center. In addition to selling work covering a wide variety of artistic media, several artists will be "in action," demonstrating the creation of their craft during the festival. Entrance is free.

The Gualala Arts Center, located at 46501 Old State Highway in Gualala, CA,
is open weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and weekends from noon to 4:00 p.m.
Please call (707) 884-1138 for more information, or email info@gualalaarts.org.
