Ralph Matheson - Algorithmic Art
Ralph Matheson is both an artist and professional residential designer.
He has lived on the rugged northern California coast since 1969. There
he has designed many dwellings in Sea Ranch and the north coast. Mr.
Matheson has had his work published in numerous architectural magazines,
and has received the Sea Ranch Design Award and its Community
Enhancement Award.
Mr. Matheson attended University of California in Berkeley in the 1960's.
He studied Architecture, Engineering and Computer Operations Research.
This was his foundation for the Points of Light art work that has
evolved through the many years he has practiced.
He heads Matheson Design in Gualala, Ca. He has created a 3-D software
drawing program called 'Trueview' that has sold in the U.S. and Europe.
With an interest in computers and design he has generated art using
ancient spiritual symbols.
His Points of Light art is intriguing to the viewer because the symbols
are embedded and the form and movement are seen through the effect of the
colors. His work has been described by collectors as having "simplicity
and elegance." With the integration of the light box, the circular
images appear to be illuminated and moving. These recent series are
called "Connections To The Universe."
His work has been shown throughout the Bay Area and at Illuminarium
Gallery in Mill Valley. His work is in private collections on the west
coast.
He has exhibited his work in California, at Arches Gallery in Healdsburg
and at the Ratliff Gallery in Sedona. Mr. Matheson's work was
exhibited at the Four Season's Hotel in San Francisco in November, 2007 for a
show benefitting Tibetan Aid Project.
He may be contacted for future exhibits and acquisitions.
