Connie Matz - Oils
The earth is like a treasure box to me. I open the front door and it is all there. The north coast has it all, mountains, rivers, vineyards, the beach with the rhythm and moods of the sea, winter storms to fog swept hills. The early morning sun that hits the white foam of the waves, the birds that drift on currents, to the evening sunsets going from pastels to vibrant reds, oranges and purples. Or children running and playing on the beaches chasing the gulls. The subjects are never ending.
My studies in art have been few, but my search has been long. The one person I learned the most from, even though it was only a two day work shop, was with William Reese from the University of Washington. He helped me think in a new way about painting, and to have fun doing it.
Most of my work is in oils which are so fluid, the colors are so intense and pure that I can control them just the way I like. I prefer to work on canvas that gives slightly with the touch of my brush.
Many paintings have left my studio over the years to homes all over the United States, Canada and Europe.
I believe we must use the gifts that have been given to us, for it feeds our soul.
