The focus of this class is to learn an easy way to do appliqué working with freezer paper, spray starch and fabric basting glue. You will work on a sample block during class, learning to make perfect circles, nice curves, simple stems and sharp points.
About the instructor
Judy Riddle came from a long line of Utah and Idaho quilters and needle workers, all passing their skills and techniques from generation to generation. She would watch, in admiration, as her grandmother would piece and hand stitch quilts stretched on a home-made quilting frame. Judy moved to California at age eight, when she began learning sewing techniques through sewing classes, doll-making classes, and quilting classes. Twenty years ago, while living in San Diego, Judy started actively joining any and every quilting class possible, attending numerous specialty classes each month, along with year-long Block-of-the-Month quilt classes. She has learned from Eleanor Burns at Quilt In A Day, Jan Krenz, Wendy Knight, Pearl Pereira, Nancy Amidon and numerous other San Diego instructors.
For Judy, the most exciting quilts, however, were those with applique. Appliqué always looked too intimidating, until learning Pearl Pereira's appliqué technique from Nancy Amidon. Her ideal appliqué pieces have smooth finished edges, sharp points, and curved lines with striking results. In the past five years, Judy has shared her love of appliqué, teaching several friends and fellow quilters through private and group instruction. The past three years, Judy has been displaying her appliqué work in the Pacific Piecemaker's Quilt Challenge in Gualala, California, and the Western Days Quilt Show in Yorktown, Texas. Judy designed, prepared and completed the appliqué on the 2012 PPQG Quilt,
