Silk painting is a happy hybrid of watercolor and batik.
Learn all you need to paint silk in this two-day class: how to mix dyes, apply / remove resists, paint a variety of effects, steam-set your work for colorfastness, plus ideas for framing. Create a gorgeous original silk scarf or wall art piece each day.
If you're a beginner, this sensual and goof-proof medium will bring out your inner artist. For experienced artists, silk painting is a satisfying new medium for expressing yourself spontaneously. All materials are provided.
About the instructor
My work has been exhibited and published internationally. For 11 years I worked with older adults in textile media as an artist-in-residence, through the California Arts Council. I currently teach silk painting and other fiber arts through adult education and art centers.
I believe that we are all born artists. A lot of people had their natural creativity stifled at an early age. Through teaching I encourage adults to experience the joy of fashioning original and meaningful products with their hands. My teaching style is collaborative and playful. I offer projects and techniques that are goof-proof to assist students in creating work they will love, on the very first try.
