Masks, Monsters and Masterpieces will be its own stand-alone 2-day class offered during the same two weeks as the
Gualala Arts Summer Art Program for Youth.
The first Monday will be spent hand building, wheel throwing and working with wet clay. Students will be able to make their own African masks. On the second Monday we will glazing items from the previous week as well as a pre-made dinnerware set (bowl, plate, etc). Space is limited. (Additional classes may be added to meet demand.)
Update: Rusty has agreed to accept registrations up to July 1, 2013.
About the Instructor
Rusty Makely, also known as "The Rusty Potter," has been working in clay for over 34 years and has taught ceramics for the last 13 years. His studies have taken him far and wide from his home roots near Orange Coast College and Laguna School of Art. He has been as far away as New Zealand and Driving Creek Pottery, and Fredricktown, PA and Thomas Pottery.
In addition to creating unique ceramic works of art, Rusty is also a master at the wheel and worked as a production potter for 11 years for Mahon Made Stoneware, Inc. He has produced exclusive pre-production pieces for Disney Galleries as well.
For the past few summers, Rusty has taught the very popular ceramics class at the Gualala Arts Summer Art Program for Youth. This year, in order to more effectively and efficiently be able to dry, fire and glaze the artwork created in our Summer Art Program, we are experimenting with Rusty's class being an add-on workshop. We welcome your feedback.
