Birder's Clay Workshop

Design your own birdhouses, birdfeeders, birdbaths, or clay birds. Instructor will provide examples and help you develop your ideas. The first weekend is construction; the second weekend is decoration. The clay is dried and fired during the intervening week.
Simple, hand-built projects will be created in terracotta or black clay. All projects will be individually designed by the participant with advice of the instructor. Easily learned, hand-building techniques will be taught during the workshops. All tools and materials will be provided. Coffee, tea, and beverages are available during the workshop.

Your individually designed "Gingerbread" House can become a cherished family heirloom for display under your tree or on your mantle. Perhaps you would like to design a "Gingerbread" Birdhouse to grace your garden all year long. The first weekend is construction; the second weekend is decoration. The clay is dried and fired during the intervening week.

Jan Maria has had a long and varied career in both the arts and education. After completing her BFA, including time at the Chicago Art Institute, she traveled West and was a co-founder and curator of the first women's art gallery on the West Coast, The First Majority in Berkeley. Although her first love is painting and drawing, she has worked in many media including textiles, batik, etching, and clay. She has taught art on all levels from pre-school to graduate school. For the past several years she has been working in her clay studio in the Gualala area.
In addition to the workshops listed here, Jan Maria holds an Open Clay Studio twice a week at the Gualala Arts Center.
