Gualala Art Center Theater announces auditions for its upcoming winter musical HONK! on November 6 and 7 at 1:00 p.m.
George Stiles and Anthony Drew's HONK! is based upon the story of "The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Andersen. Stiles, says, "This is a timely piece. In our increasingly multi-cultural society where school bullying, racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism and many other "isms" are prevalent, HONK! examines what it is like to be different."
Lynne Atkins, the show's director states, "The show delves into "isms" with a whimsical and humorous touch. The music is catchy, the characters are fun and the story is as much about people as it is about ducks. Although there is not a single human on stage, the actors will not be draped in feathers and fur - they are way too cool and hip!" Atkins hopes to create an ensemble cast, where the actors perform multiple characters, thus "giving wing to the performers' creative talents."
Singing, dancing and speaking roles for men, women and children (over the age of 7) are available. This year's production will be the last two weekends of February. Previous experience is not required and evening rehearsals are possible. For audition and production information, please call 884-3838. Per Atkins, "We will be happy to help you prepare a song for auditions. Come play with us - we have a lot of fun and it a joy to present our shows as a gift to the community!"
