Be our guest as the Urban Quintet brings its electric sound and funky soul shine to GAC on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m.  This is a show for those who enjoy unconventional jazz blended with a hearty helping of funk.  Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance at GAC and the Dolphin Gallery or by calling 707-884-1138.  Bring your dance card!

The Urban Quintet consists of five key players.  On bass, we have Joel Roudebush, master percussionist, formerly of Chicago, Illinois. Inspired by his urban surroundings, Joel took his talents to the sun kissed state of California where he learned Latin percussion and bass guitar.  He is currently a student at the Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco.

Adam Willis is a man of many influences.  From funk to reggae, his musical style is translated through the drums that he plays. As a member of the U.C. San Diego Jazz and Improvisational Music ensemble, Adam studied and practiced jazz under its many disguises and now lives and performs in the Bay Area along with rest of his crew.

Matt Paves, another California boy, is a product of his earlier interests in both piano and trumpet.  During his mid-teens, Matt was acknowledge for his remarkable trumpet playing and later became an integral part of the San Luis Chamber Orchestra and the University Orchestra in San Luis Obispo.

To pour a little sugar on top of this ãfunkätified ensemble, George Adelson has joined up with the boys to show us how to play guitar.  He has been strumming since age six and ultimately chose jazz as his thing.  Like Roudebush, George also attended the Blue Bear School of Music and continues evolve under the hand of instructor and music man Jeff Massanari.

Often noted for its ãdanceabilityä and old school meets new flavor, the music of the Urban Quintet is quite a ride into the possibilities of twisted jazz and funky funk.
